III. Preparation Methods of Magnesium Oxide
① Brine-- Lime Method
- Steps:
- The brine that has been purified and refined is mixed with lime milk made from lime that has been digested and de-slagged for precipitation reaction in a settling tank. After adding a flocculant to the resulting slurry and mixing thoroughly, it enters a settling tank for separation. After filtration, washing, drying, and crushing, magnesium oxide products can be obtained.
- Characteristics:
- Raw materials are readily available; the process is relatively simple. Suitable for large-scale production.
- Brine-- Ammonia Method
- Using brine that has been purified to remove impurities such as sulfates, carbon dioxide, small amounts of boron as raw material with ammonia water as a precipitant for precipitation reaction in a reaction kettle. A certain amount of seed crystals should be added before the reaction for thorough stirring. The ratio of brine to ammonia water must be appropriately controlled while maintaining temperature within a certain range. After the reaction ends, add flocculant; after filtering the precipitate, wash it again before drying and crushing to obtain magnesium oxide products.
- Characteristics:
- By controlling reaction conditions and raw material ratios, magnesium oxide with different purity levels and particle sizes can be prepared. It is important to pay attention to the amount of ammonia water used and control the reaction temperature.
- Dolomite-- Hydrochloric Acid-- Ammonia Method
Magnesite and anthracite or coke are calcined in a vertical kiln to produce magnesium oxide and carbon dioxide. After the magnesia powder (the product of calcined magnesite) is mixed with water to form a slurry, it reacts with hydrochloric acid of specified concentration to prepare magnesium chloride solution.
The magnesium hydroxide precipitate can be obtained after washing, settling, filtering, separating, drying, and crushing.
- Characteristics:
Raw materials are widely sourced, and the preparation process is relatively complex. The purity and particle size of magnesium oxide can be adjusted by controlling the reaction conditions and the ratio of raw materials.
IV. Magnesium Carbonate Calcination Method
Using magnesite, dolomite, and other raw materials, through steps such as calcination, digestion, and carbonation, basic magnesium carbonate is obtained. Basic magnesium carbonate is then subjected to thermal decomposition, calcination, and crushing to produce light magnesium oxide.
- Characteristics:
During the preparation process, it is necessary to control the calcination temperature and carbonation conditions. Light and highly active magnesium oxide can be prepared.
In the process of preparing magnesium oxide, the following points need to be noted:
Raw material selection: Suitable raw materials should be chosen based on production needs and raw material conditions.
Control of reaction conditions: It is necessary to strictly control reaction temperature, pressure, time, and other conditions to ensure product quality and yield.
Equipment selection and maintenance: Suitable production equipment should be selected and regularly maintained to ensure the stability and safety of the production process.
Environmental protection and energy saving: Attention should be paid to environmental protection and energy saving during the preparation process to reduce waste generation and energy consumption.
In summary, there are various methods for preparing magnesium oxide, which can be selected based on specific production needs and raw material conditions. During the preparation process, attention should be paid to issues such as raw material selection, control of reaction conditions, equipment selection and maintenance, as well as environmental protection and energy saving.
