Rhenium is a very unique metal element with significant application value, usuallyexhibiting a silvery appearance with a metallic luster. This color distinguishes it from some other metals, and under different lighting conditions, its luster shows certain visual characteristics. Rhenium has a hexagonal close-packed crystal structure, and its density ranks fourth among elements, only after platinum, iridium, and osmium. Its high density gives it a unique performance in terms of mass and volume relationships, which also affects its physical properties in some practical applications, such as its contribution to the overall material density when preparing alloys and other materials.

Rhenium has the third highest melting point among all elements, after tungsten and carbon, reaching about 3186°C, and its boiling point is the highest among all elements, reaching about 5596°C. Such high melting and boiling points demonstrate its strong resistance to high temperatures, allowing it to maintain a solid state and good structural stability in high-temperature environments, laying a solid foundation for its applications in high-temperature related fields.

Commercial rhenium is generally in powder form and can be pressed or sintered in vacuum or hydrogen to form a highly solid state, with a density of over 90% of the metallic state. Rhenium metal has high ductility when annealed, allowing it to be bent and rolled. Rhenium-molybdenum alloys are superconductors at 10K, while tungsten-rhenium alloys have superconducting temperatures between 4 to 8K. Rhenium metal becomes a superconductor at 1.697+0.006K, and rhenium metal blocks can resist alkalis, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, dilute nitric acid (non-concentrated nitric acid), and aqua regia under standard temperature and pressure. Rhenium is very suitable for manufacturing high-temperature alloy components for jet engines and for producing lead-free, high-octane gasoline catalysts.
